Look what I made! King of the Hill Monopoly

So for Christmas this year my group of friends decided on Thanksgiving that we would make each other gifts.  I had been thinking for quite a while about a King of the Hill Monopoly.  All of us are really big fans of the show and after it was canceled I knew I wanted to do something to show some appreciation.  There are literally dozens of different “official” Monopoly’s out there.  Just search Amazon for any idea.  I was also pretty sure that it will never happen, espically considering that they still haven’t released anything past season 6 WHICH ENDED IN 2002!  ARE YOU LISTENING FOX!?
I should also mention that I am very fortunate to work at a large company with a dedicated print-shop that will print for individual employees (as long as you pay for it).

I started with a numbers document listing the King of the Hill properties in relation to the traditional properties.  I also outlined which characters would appear on which bills and started brainstorming Propane and Propane Accessory cards (chance and community chest).
Once I had the properties decided on and sorted out I begin searching for a template.  This was WAY easier than I thought it would be.  I was totally expecting to have to make something on my own.  I’m not much of a designer, so whatever I would have been able to do would have been nothing like what I finally did.  Googling for “monopoly template” lands a digg article with something like 5 diggs.  The Digg article points to Brad Frost’s blog.  That template contains the board design in full 300dpi 20”x20”, amazing property cards and even fonts.

It was actually pretty easy to replace the traditional titles with my decided KoH titles.  I added the graphics on the board with a little photoshop magic using some images I already had on my MacBook.  The money was created using a .png that I found very early on (unfortunately I don’t have a link) and as a result was rather poor print quality, but ok for what is really play money.  I did the propane and propane accessory cards last minute and I don’t have any pictures of them, they are really funny, but don’t look very good.  If I was going to replace anything it will be those first.
After I finished all the design I sent it off to the print shop and about $40 later here’s what we get:

You can view the entire flickr gallery of the finished product here.
